GGH Vijayawada, Blood bank Renovation by SMCAA
The Siddhartha Medical College Alumni Association (SMCAA) had undertaken the modernization and renovation of the Blood Bank at Government General Hospital (GGH), Vijayawada, with advanced medical facilities. The renovated Blood Bank was inaugurated in August 2026.
Around 15 advanced medical devices worth approximately ₹75 lakhs were provided to the Blood Bank. The equipment included sterile connection devices, blood component monitors, blood donor couches, a platelet agitator and incubator, a refrigerated centrifuge, an ELISA washer, an ELISA reader, a gel-card centrifuge and incubator, a binocular microscope, tabletop centrifuges, a reagent refrigerator, and a coagulation analyzer.
This project was undertaken by the SMCAA Executive Committee. Dr. N. Ammanna , Dr. V. Prasad Vemuri, Dr. Naveen C. Reddy, Dr. Rao S. Surapaneni, and S. Rao were instrumental in initiating the project and making it a great success.
The project was also made possible through generous donations from numerous donors. The Siddhartha Medical College Alumni of North America contributed ₹20 lakhs toward this purpose. Several other alumni members also extended their support in a significant way.
The renovated Blood Bank was inaugurated by NTR District Collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha on August 7, 2026.
Dr. N. Ammanna , SMCAA Coordinator, stated that the Alumni Association had undertaken the initiative as part of its efforts to implement socially beneficial programs. He mentioned that alumni members and donors came forward to transform the government Blood Bank with modern equipment and facilities.
The modern equipment would strengthen blood collection, testing, separation of blood components, and storage facilities, besides enabling the hospital to provide quality blood and blood components to patients more efficiently and quickly.
